I have mentioned in previous blogs that there were certain things that were completely different and shocking to me when I immigrated to the U.S. I haven’t had the chance to share some of those and some of my readers have asked me to.
So here are five things that were cultural shocks to me or didn’t meet my expectations when I immigrated to the U.S.

This blog post is really for the many people like me that had to go through a period of assimilation or currently going through that time adaptation into a new environment. I went through it and learned a few things I think are worth sharing. I believe that one of the ways to succeed in the U.S or a foreign land is to assimilate to an extent. Adapt to the new environment but don’t forget about the values instilled in you. I’ll give three reasons why this is necessary, but let me give you some background first.

Preface: God truly has a sense of humor and has a way of doing things that I will never really understand. The blog you are about to read below was written last November when I decided to start a blog. I was going to launch the blog and the post below on January 1, but I was in Ghana, so I pushed it to my birthday. February 7 came around, and the part of me that believes everything has to be perfect told me I needed two more weeks. So I reluctantly obliged. But as I launch this blog today, I believe God picked today as the right day. Last week was rough for me—so rough that I felt defeated and had no plans on following through on my promise to launch this page today. I felt used, hurt and uninspired to keep plowing through this tough, sometimes unfair life. If my goal for this blog is to inspire and encourage others going through tough times, I didn’t feel like I was in a mental state to launch this today. However, I received texts and phone calls asking me about this whole Rich Honesty blog thing. So I pulled out my computer and pulled up this post to see if it needed any last minute sprucing before today. I still wasn’t motivated, but as I read through this post, I realized God was at work when He asked me to start Rich Honesty. As I read through this post you’re about to read, I was inspired. It was as if I had written this specifically for someone who was going through what I went through last week. If I had launched this two weeks ago, it wouldn’t have had the same effect on me. Just reading this post was all I needed to get me out of my misery. To think that my first post was actually written for me is amazing. It truly shows how God works. He has plans none of us understand. So here goes the first post of Rich Honesty… THE REAL RICHIE MILLS!
